Increased peak time charges
Perth Airport wants an increase in aircraft movement charges and many of the resource sector flights leave Perth Airport between 5:30 – 8am every morning and as reported before have experience delays regularly of up to 30 minutes on the tarmac. The resources industry has some concerns over slot changes that may impact rosters and fatigue management. Perth Airport says that the slot system will be regulated so that regular passenger flights were not disadvantaged.
As Perth Airport’s current runways cross each other, this restricts the number of operations that the airport could handle especially during peak periods. On October 9, Qantas Boss, Alan Joyce backed plans for a third runway citing that the airline was also suffering substantial airline costings.
The airport recently prepared the concept design and timeframes to complete the runway. The cost will be $600 million, it will be 2,700 metres long and take four years to construct. It will also be located east of the current main runway 03/21 and takes it name (Runway 03R / 21L). If airlines agreed to fund the project, construction could start in late 2013 and finish by late 2017.
