AIR New Zealand has committed to flying it’s brand new Boeing 787-9s on the Perth-Auckland route from the 15th of October next year. The first carrier to take the new, stretched version of the much criticised Boeing 787. Deliveries will begin late next year but flights on the new aircraft are now available to book on Air New Zealand’s website.
This marks Perth Airport’s first scheduled Boeing 787 service as claims, Qatar Airways will not be placing it’s Boeing 787-8s on the Doha-Perth route for capacity reasons. Air New Zealand CEO, Christopher Luxon said;
“The 787-9 is going to be a game changer for Air New Zealand and is a key element in delivering on our Go Beyond growth plan”
“Not only is the 787-9 around 20 percent more fuel efficient than the aircraft it’s replacing, it also sets a new benchmark for passenger comfort.”
The new aircraft will boast 18 “Business Premier” seats, 21 “Premium Economy” seats and 263 Economy seats.
Acting Tourism Minister, John Day has said the announcement was great news for the state’s tourism industry.
