AS we head into the summer season, more airlines are placing extra services on Perth routes and updates in and around the airport get into gear. Here are the latest updates.
EMIRATES Airlines has applied for daily slots to bring it’s Airbus A380-800 aircraft on Perth services from March 1st, 2014 as widely speculated previously. The airline is waiting the completion of a dedicated aerobridge at the airport’s international terminal which has just been completed but has not been tested. The airline had previously been forced to delay the introduction of the world’s largest passenger airliner due to the delays in construction of the Super Jumbo’s gate.
INDONESIA AIRASIA will increase to 5 daily operation from January 3rd, 2014 in spite of popularity on the Denpasar – Perth route. The service will run over the summer season (until March 29) but has the opportunity to be permanent. QZ8414 will arrive at 4:45pm and QZ8415 will depart at 6:10pm.
AIRASIA X will increase to double daily operation from November 24 this year as part of an Australian expansion which sees frequencies increased in Melbourne, Sydney and the Gold Coast.
MALAYSIA AIRLINES will add two more weekly services from Kuala Lumpur to meet the demand on the route especially with the increase by AirAsia X. MH127/126’s new services will operate on Wednesdays and Sundays.
AIR MAURITIUS will increase capacity on two days in December in spite of demand. Airbus A340-300 aircraft will operate on Monday 23rd December and Tuesday 31 December on the MK440/441. Note: MK will cancel the Wednesday service for both weeks.
TIGERAIR SINGAPORE has increased to double daily on the Singapore – Perth route also in spite of demand. TR2714/2715 will operate daily over the summer period (until 29 March)
TIGERAIR AUSTRALIA will launch up to 6 weekly services from Sydney to Perth from 19 December 2013.
SCOOT will begin 5 weekly services from 12 December.
QANTAS will seasonally add two weekly services from Perth – Auckland using Airbus A330-200 aircraft from 18 December. This is the first time that Air New Zealand which operates daily services has competition on the route.
AIR NEW ZEALAND will add a seasonal Perth – Christchurch services operating 2 weekly services lasting the summer season until late-April 2014. Boeing 767-300ER aircraft will operate the route. The flights will depart Christchurch at 3.40pm and Perth at 7.10pm on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
PERTH AIRPORT‘s cross runway will be closed from August 2013 to late March for critical works on resurfacing the runway.
QANTAS will operate charter Antarctica flights (overfly) from Perth on 26th, 27th and 28th January 2014 using Boeing 747-400ER aircraft.
