PERTH Airport has unveiled the completed 60 metre extension to the international terminal earlier this week. The new look arrivals area is a big change from the cramped area previously seen by travellers and is seen as a bid to improve service quality across the board.
This new area encompasses a much larger immigration processing area, a bigger duty free area and the first of three double-loop baggage conveyors to ease the arrivals congestion at Perth’s international airport.
Perth Airport CEO, Brad Geatches said;
“Perth Airport recognises the arrivals experience has not been what it should be”
The opening of this new extension could not have come any better in time as Perth Airport’s International terminal is gearing up for a busy Christmas and New Year period. Strong growth in the inbound arrivals at Perth Airport has seen an 8.2pc increase to 3.8 million passengers last financial year.
“It was essential that we got the design of this area right to ensure an efficient and enjoyable customer experience,”
“We also wanted to embrace technology, and support the increased use of SmartGate by Australian citizens and those from other nations with e-Passport facilities.”
“We’ve gone from having quite a poor inbound duty free offer to what I’m told is one of the best now available,”
“The choice has been dramatically expanded to include cosmetics, electronics, as well as the obvious liquor and confectionary.
“But it is a magnificent store and the feedback we’ve had has been extremely positive.”
But, the expansion of the entire International complex is not yet completed. Due at the end of 2014, the new pier will be home to Virgin Australia. Also, this $145 million expansion includes a departures expansion and is also not due until late-2014.
