PERTH Airport have delayed the opening of the new and anticipated domestic pier for Virgin Australia to late-January of next year. It was originally intended for opening as early as next month.
CEO Brad Geatches says that the airport is working very hard to deliver the project on time as Virgin Australia is operating out of both Terminal 2 and 3 which are on opposite sides of the aerodrome and often causes confusion for passengers who transfer from intrastate to interstate services with the airline.
“The project is a large and complex one being integrated into the existing terminal facility”
Virgin Australia CEO, John Borghetti said that the delay was making them lose money;
“This terminal is the centrepiece of our commitment to WA,”
“The first route we put our new A330s on was Perth and we have invested hundreds of millions in new planes and services.
“Virgin Australia’s transformation experience in the air, with the first-class facilities, is not matched by the current terminal.”
The pier is part of a $750 million investment from Perth Airport and includes the recently completed Terminal 2 and extensions to the International Terminal. Read more about the airport’s redevelopment here.
