QATAR Airways CEO, Akbar Al Baker has promised West Australians that one of the first destinations for their new Airbus A350-900s will be Perth by early-2015.
Speaking at the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai, UAE. Al Baker said that he hopes that the aircraft will be on the route in early-2015.
Al Baker considers Perth to be both a ultra long-haul route and as the nation’s mining capital.
Qatar Airways previously planned to run Australia’s first commercial 787 service from Perth in February last year but was hampered by the aircraft’s battery problems. Al Baker reveals that the operating range for the Boeing 787-8 would have been close to capacity as no crew-rest compartments were installed as part of the order.
Qatar Airways currently offers daily services between Doha and Perth, a flight time of 11hrs and 20 minutes using the Boeing 777-200LR. It also offers services to Melbourne using the Boeing 777-300ER.
