VIRGIN Australia’s much anticipated T1 Domestic Pier is set to open on November 22, says Perth Airport.
Perth Airport CEO, Brad Geatches said,
“The opening represents a major milestone in achieving our vision of having all commercial air services operating from one convenient location
This terminal is the centrepiece of our commitment to WA and will deliver an outstanding travel experience for all of our customers
It will provide access to twice the number of departure gates, with the ability to board up to 12 aircraft at one time”
Perth Airport have noted the change in passenger experience resulting from the new terminal.
Passengers will enter the pier via a 50 metre link serviced by dual travelators. This leads to the spacious departures area with expansive views across the airfield. The pier measures 200 metres in length, and for passengers requiring assistance, buggies operated by airport staff will be available to take you to your departures gate.
The retail, food and beverage hub is conveniently located in the centre of the Pier, and will offer passengers an extensive range of dining and retail options in a comfortable environment.
The new Domestic Pier includes innovative features to reduce energy consumption, particularly the use of natural light and a facade providing shade during summer months.
Virgin Australia CEO, John Borghetti added,
“Despite changes to the resources market, WA continues to experience some of the strongest economic growth in the country
Over the past few years, we have increased our Perth seat capacity by more than 50 per cent, developed a WA-based regional and charter operation and invested hundreds of millions of dollars on a fleet of state-of-the-art A330 aircraft.”
Virgin Australia’s new terminal contains 28 check-in counters, 12 aerobridge gates, and a Virgin Australia lounge.
