JAPAN Airlines chairman, Masaru Onishi has commented on the airline’s interest in launching a direct Perth – Tokyo service in the near future.
Speaking with Kyoto News, Onishi discussed the opportunity in the below excerpt.
For the Australian market, JAL is mulling a new route, with Onishi suggesting that the west-coast city of Perth may be in the running as a possible destination.
The benefits have already been evident.
Approximately 95,000 annual passengers travel between Western Australia and Japan. Japan is also the state’s second largest trading partner
If this eventuates, it will be the first direct service since Qantas culled its own service in 2011 after the Japan earthquake.
Japan Airlines current, sole Australian destination is Sydney, for which it operates a daily service.
