UPDATE: 27 FEB 17
Virgin Australia has scrapped plans for services between Perth and Abu Dhabi. The airline has cited “subsequent changes in market conditions” as a reason for pulling the flights even before they have started.
20 SEP 16
VIRGIN Australia will begin services from Perth to Abu Dhabi from June 9 next year, utilising its own fleet of Airbus A330-200 aircraft.
The three-weekly flights will also be in addition to partner, Etihad Airways’ daily flights to and from the UAE hotspot, using the state-of-the-art Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
Our A330 aircraft will be deployed on a long-haul international route for the first time on flights between Perth and Abu Dhabi, which increases the number of services offered on the route from seven to 10 per week through our alliance with Etihad Airways.
Currently, Virgin Australia service Abu Dhabi from Sydney, but this will end from February 4 to coincide with the resumption of Melbourne – Los Angeles flights from April 4.
The schedule, subject to government approval is as follows:
VA12 AUH0820 – 2325PER 332 135
VA11 PER2305 – 0635+1AUH 332 257
Perth Airport Chief Executive Officer, Kevin Brown said that Virgin Australia’s announcement is great news for tourists and the WA people.
This new direct service offers greater choice when travelling to Abu Dhabi, either as a final destination or for onward travel to Europe, the Americas and Africa.
The close proximity of Terminal 2 (Regional), Terminal 1 (Domestic) and Terminal 1 (International) at Perth Airport allows Virgin Australia passengers to transfer seamlessly between regional, domestic and international services in the one convenient location, under one roof making transfers the easiest they have ever been.
